Artistic, diverse, and a true working-class community, Bayview is San Francisco’s lively industrial heart. Home to a vibrant artist colony, the streets of Bayview are lined with locally owned corner stores and cafes, art spaces, family-friendly parks, and urban gardens. In 2016, it was recognized as San Francisco’s Neighborhood of the Year by Curbed San Francisco. Located in the southeast section of the city, some people say that Bayview represents what the rest of the city has forgotten– diversity. Immigrants from all parts of the world have made Bayview their home. This cultural diversity has led to an explosion of flavors, music, art, and collaborative spaces. In Bayview, residents know and talk to each other. There’s a real sense of community. It’s recently been made even more accessible thanks to the MUNI light rail.

Bayview San Francisco real estate

San Francisco has built a reputation as one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. In Bayview, it’s au contraire. Bayview is home to San Francisco’s most affordable homes. The local market is comprised of a mélange of traditional single-family homes, condos, and multi-family buildings. Architecture is diverse as well– single-family residences come in Victorian and mid-century varieties. Condo options are even more plentiful, especially with the addition of several upscale and modern developments in the neighborhood. Click on the Bayview tab on the homepage for available listings and recent sales data.

What’s in and around Bayview?

Bayview’s often sunny weather gives plenty of reason to explore the neighborhood’s numerous attractions and charms, including:

  • Bayview Opera House – The cultural center of Bayview, the Bayview Opera House was opened in 1888 and is said to be the oldest existing theatre of its kind in San Francisco. Recognizable for its distinct Italianate architecture, the Bayview Opera House serves as a venue for art and family events, as well as concerts, theater productions, and community celebrations.
  • The Black Cuisine Festival – Dubbed as the biggest celebration of soul food in San Francisco, the Black Cuisine Festival held its 37th year in 2017. Aside from generous servings of good-to-the-bone soul food, the festival features live music and entertainment, a cooking contest, and kids’ activities.
  • India Basin Shoreline Park – A former industrial area, the beautiful India Basin Park is back to its original form– a wetland. India Basic features a tidal salt marsh and is a habitat for shorebirds and raptors. People visit India Basin for bird-watching and kayaking and to enjoy breathtaking views of the Bay area. The Bay Area Ridge Trail can also be accessed from here.
  • The EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park – The first 100 percent “off-the-grid” building in San Francisco, the EcoCenter is the place to go to learn about sustainable living and environmental education. It is located at Heron’s Head Park, a favorite among bird-watchers in the city.
